Ariana Grande To Receive Rising Star Award at Palm Springs International Film Festival For ‘Wicked’

Ariana Grande, best known for career as a singer, is set to receive the Rising Star Award at the upcoming Palm Springs International Film Festival. The announcement, made on Wednesday, highlights her transition from global pop icon to acclaimed actress.

The prestigious Film Awards Gala will take place on January 3, as part of the festival running from January 2 to January 13.

Festival Chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi praised Grande’s breakthrough performance in ‘Wicked,’ where she takes on the role of Glinda: “Ariana Grande’s portrayal of Glinda elevates her to new heights with a commanding performance that masterfully blends her exceptional musical abilities, sharp comedic timing, and deep characterization,” Chandi stated. “Ariana has proven herself to be a multifaceted talent, seamlessly transitioning from music to film in her first major starring role. We are honored to celebrate her extraordinary talent with the Rising Star Award.”

The Rising Star Award has a notable history of honoring promising talent. Previous recipients include Gal Gadot (‘Wonder Woman’), Terrence Howard (‘Hustle & Flow’), Scarlett Johansson (‘Lost in Translation’), Jennifer Lawrence (‘Winter’s Bone’), and Alicia Vikander (‘The Danish Girl’ and ‘Ex Machina’).

Grande joins a distinguished list of honorees for this year’s festival, which includes Adrien Brody (Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actor), Timothée Chalamet (Chairman’s Award), and Angelina Jolie (Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress).

Directed by Jon M. Chu, ‘Wicked’ features an ensemble cast including Cynthia Erivo, Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum. Since its release on November 22, the film has already grossed over $365 million globally, cementing its status as a box-office success.
