Director David Lynch Gives Concerning Health Update, Says He Can No Longer Leave House
Legendary director David Lynch has shared details about his current health condition.
The mastermind behind films like ‘Eraserhead,’ ‘The Elephant Man,’ ‘Mulholland Drive,’ and creator of ‘Twin Peaks’ revealed that he can no longer leave his house since being diagnosed with emphysema.
The 78 year-old director said he developed the condition due to long-term smoking and suggested it is unlikely he will direct again.
“I’ve gotten emphysema from smoking for so long and so I’m homebound whether I like it or not. It would be very bad for me to get sick, even with a cold,” Lynch said. “[I] can only walk a short distance before [I’m] out of oxygen.”
The director also implied that if he were to work on another project as director, he would do so remotely.
Emphysema, also known as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), caused by smoking, air pollution and exposure to harmful chemicals. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has predicted it will become the third leading cause of death worldwide by 2030.
The director’s last feature film was ‘Inland Empire’ (2006).
