Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently revealed new robot prototypes, including the highly anticipated robotaxi (Cybercab) and Robovan.

While Musk’s fans were excited by the innovations, fans elsewhere drew similarities to the futuristic designs from Alex Proyas’ 2004 film ‘I, Robot’ starring Will Smith.

Proyas took to Musk-owned X to show his concerns, and showcased the comparisons, captioning: “Hey Elon, Can I have my designs back please?”

Set in Chicago in 2035, highly intelligent robots are tasked with public service duties throughout the technologically advanced world. This includes operating under three hardwired and distinct laws to keep humans safe. Detective Spooner (Smith) investigates the alleged suicide of Robotics founder Alfred Lanning and believes that a robot named Sonny murdered him — which according to the rest of the world, is impossible.

The film stars Will Smith, Bridget Moynahan, Bruce Greenwood, James Cromwell, Chi McBride, and Alan Tudyk as Sonny. Alex Proyas directed the project from a script by Jeff Vintar and Akiva Goldsman.

On Thursday, Musk led Tesla’s ‘We, Robot’ conference at the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank. Musk unveiled his Optimus robots that were tele-operated by humans in real-time. Though the event was highly talked about online, it led to a major stock plummet for Tesla as investors were disappointed with Musk’s new inventions.
