Bad Robot has faced some issues with the studio as of late; after Warner Bros merged with Discovery, leading to the downfall of many developing projects including Abrams’ pricey sci-fi drama ‘Demimonde’ before it even began production (HBO).
Bad Robot recently released ‘Batman: Caped Crusader,’ which launched on Prime Video, and ‘Presumed Innocent’ for Apple TV+.
Bad Robot helmed documentaries and docuseries including ‘Charlie Hustle & The Matter of Pete Rose,’ ‘Elizabeth Taylor: The Lost Tapes’ and ‘Yankees Win’ — all released this summer.
The five-year deal (signed September 2019) between Warner Bros and Bad Robot was valued at $250 million. The 2024 deal is still being discussed between parties, with insiders suggesting “less-expensive” productions are part of Warner Bros’ mandate.
Abrams may be enticed to lean back toward Warner Bros as Apple intends to slash spending amid the recent report of generating less views in a month than Netflix does in a single day.
Bad Robot is currently working on a ‘Speed Racer’ series for Apple TV+, and their feature-length film titled ‘Flowervale Street’ for Warner Bros.
