DC Studios new universe is yet to kick-off, with ‘Superman’ recently wrapping production and being released in 2025. However, ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ is around the corner, making its debut shortly after HBO’s ‘Penguin’ series (‘The Batman’ spin-off) ended up a win with fans and critics alike.

Now DC Studios is taking their villain stories to the next stage.

Bane, the chemical-injecting villain who was previously portrayed by Tom Hardy in Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ (2012), and Deathstroke, last scene in ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ (2021), are being paired for a movie. This will be part of James Gunn’s new universe, with new actors to play the respective roles.

The Hollywood Reporter says DC Studios are developing a script from Matthew Orton, who recently co-wrote ‘Captain America: Brave New World.’

Bane made his debut in the shocking Batman comic book titled ‘Knightfall,’ in which he fought and broke Batman’s back, a moment that made the villain an A-tier Batman antagonist. This was a moment that Nolan adapted directly into ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’

Deathstroke was first introduced in 1980 coming up against the popular Teen Titans, and ended up being one of DC’s most popular villains. Over the years, the character has fought Batman and the Justice League, and was given some time in the spotlight by Zack Snyder in ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League.’

Unfortunately, the past DC universe (DCEU) never came to fruition due to studio interference over creatives and the infamous ‘Snyder Cut’ situation.

Joe Manganiello was also set to reprise his role as Deathstroke in a movie titled ‘The Batman’ when Ben Affleck set to direct and star as Bruce Wayne/Batman. At another point, Manganiello was also attached to star in a Deathstroke solo movie from director Gareth Evans (‘The Raid’).

Todd Phillips showcased how great villain-oriented stories could be, launching the R-rated ‘Joker’ to over $1 billion at the box office and generating Oscars for Joaquin Phoenix and composer Hildur Gudnadóttir.

Matthew Orton has a vast writing and directing career involving criminals. His latest work involves Clive Owen and Daisy Ridley in ‘Cleaner.’
