The sequel to 2019’s ‘Joker’ that’s been 5 years in the making is finally set to release at the Venice Film Festival in August. The first film premiered at the 76th Venice International Film Festival on August 31, 2019, where it won the Golden Lion, which make this a fitting repetition for the sequel.

‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ adds Lady Gaga to the cast as Harley Quinn, with Joaquin Phoenix returning as the lead. Todd Phillips is once again at the helm as co-writer and director. Also joining the cast includes Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, and Zazie Beetz — who was present in the first film as Arthur’s fantasized love interest.

A huge element in the first film was the Oscar winning score by Hildur Guðnadóttir, and the composer has returned for the sequel as well.

The lower end of the first film’s budget was estimated at $50 Million, and cracked $1 Billion at the global box office. The sequel holds a significantly inflated budget with $200 Million, due to larger set pieces and an A-list cast.

Plot details are yet to be released. More updates to come.

‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ is scheduled to be released theatrically in the United States on October 4, 2024.
