Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio are set to produce a new film originating from an idea by Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.
Set in Hawaii, this crime caper is being pitched to various studios and streaming services. Industry comparisons are being made to classics like 'The Departed' and 'Goodfellas.' However, the project is still seeking a distributor, which will ultimately determine its feasibility, according to several insiders familiar with the proposal. The screenplay for this still-untitled drama will be crafted by Nick Bilton, known for his direction of the 2021 HBO documentary 'Fake Famous.'
Johnson and Blunt, who have previously collaborated on 'Jungle Cruise,' introduced the concept to Scorsese and DiCaprio. After showing interest, the duo approached Bilton to discuss the script.
The production team includes Scorsese, Johnson, Blunt, DiCaprio, Bilton, Dany Garcia, Lisa Frechette, and Rick Yorn.
The project's ambition is underscored by the anticipation around Johnson and Blunt's next joint venture, 'The Smashing Machine,' directed by Benny Safdie under A24, which is expected to be a pivotal dramatic role for Johnson.
Scorsese and DiCaprio's renowned partnership has produced several notable films, such as 'The Departed,' 'The Aviator,' 'Gangs of New York,' 'Shutter Island,' 'The Wolf of Wall Street,' and the recent Oscar-nominated 'Killers of the Flower Moon.' They are also developing a feature adaptation of 'The Devil in the White City,' which recently secured backing from 20th Century Studios.
