Jonathan Nolan Says It Would Be A “Dream” To Return For ‘The Dark Knight 4’

While 2012's ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ seemed to give a satisfying and definitive ending to Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne/Batman, Jonathan Nolan (who’s success keeps mounting with his latest hit show ‘Fallout’) would be keen on returning for a potential ‘The Dark Knight 4’ in the future.

Alongside his brother Christopher Nolan (and David S. Goyer), Jonathan Nolan helped write and develop the stories for The Dark Knight Trilogy, and expressed his enthusiasm about the prospect of returning for a potential fourth instalment.

In an interview with SHOWSHA, Jonathan Nolan spoke about how returning to the world of Batman would be a dream come true. This certainly sparked some discussion online as Batman actor Christian Bale (in 2022) mentioned his certainty of reprising the role if Christopher Nolan were to direct once again.

Jonathan Nolan stated; “Wouldn’t that be a dream? That period was about 10 years of my life, from when I got the call to work on Batman Begins in 2003 to putting out The Dark Knight Rises In 2012 and it was epic. The chance to work Christian, Heath, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and the extraordinary cast of those films. A sort of American icon. So, if I had the chance to go back and work on that again, absolutely.”

The likelihood of a fourth Nolan Batman film is not in their hands, as James Gunn is currently building a new DC Universe with new actors and stories.
