Danny Boyle’s ‘28 Years Later’ Set for Summer 2025 Release Date, Cillian Murphy As Executive Producer

The third and long-awaited instalment of Danny Boyle‘s ‘28 Years Later’ will release on June 20, 2025, Sony Pictures announced Friday.

Danny Boyle will return to direct a screenplay written by Alex Garland (‘Annihilation, ‘Civil War’), with the pair of them producing the project. Cillian Murphy is returning to the franchise as an executive producer. Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes also star in the film, which is part of a planned trilogy.

The original film was a surprise hit with critics and fans, while being financially profitable ($82 million+ on an $8 million budget). ‘28 Days Later’ is credited with revitalizing the zombie horror genre, which inspired future adaptions and originals films such as; ‘World War Z,’ ‘Zombieland,’ ‘The Walking Dead,’ and Zack Snyder’s notable remake of ‘Dawn of the Dead.’
