Jeff Bridges will star as the monster, while Dave Bautista will play Beowulf in a new live-action movie from the Jim Henson Company and director Robert D. Krzykowski.

Krzykowski will direct a screenplay he adapted from John Gardner’s novel.

The film is billed as “tale of the legendary monster at the heart of the Beowulf epic poem who steps forth to tell his side of this riveting story.” Jim Henson’s Creature Shop will handle all practical effects and creature design.

Alongside the two leads, Bryan Cranston is set as King Hrothgar, Sam Elliott as The Dragon, Thomasin McKenzie (‘Last Night In Soho’) as Queen Wealhtheow, and Aidan Turner as Unferth. T Bone Burnett will also star and provide original songs for the film.

Palisades Park Pictures are launching international sales out of Cannes, with CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group splitting rights for the North American market.

Director and writer Robert D. Krzykowski commented on his latest project: “Grendel represents everything I love about the movies. John Gardner’s mad masterpiece cleverly tackles what it is to be human through the wild-eyed lens of a monster. It’s an honor to work with such a remarkable group of storytellers, all of whom seek to bring something wonderful and unexpected to audiences now.”

Past films (often labeled iconic) that the Jim Henson Company has worked on include; The Muppet Movie, Labyrinth, and Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio.
