Warner Bros. and Legendary's film ‘A Minecraft Movie’ premiered to a groundbreaking $10.6 million during Thursday previews, the largest ever preview opening for a video game adaptation. The previous record was set by ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ with $10.3 million.

Continuing this momentum, ‘A Minecraft Movie’ is expected to potentially open to over $75 million, a figure that leans towards the conservative side. This comes at a time when the domestic box office is notably struggling, and ‘Minecraft’ might just be the boost of confidence that Hollywood studios and cinema owners require after recent flops such as Disney’s ‘Snow White.’

The movie boasts an impressive cast including Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Jennifer Coolidge, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, and Sebastian Eugene Hansen. Many of the cast were present at the film’s global premiere in London last weekend, which explains their absence from Warner Bros.’ CinemaCon presentation amid speculations that Warner Bros. Discovery head, David Zaslav, is contemplating leadership changes involving movie studio heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy.

Although the film represents a victory for both De Luca and Abdy, it’s Legendary’s May Parent who has been instrumental in steering the movie creatively. Parent played a pivotal role in securing Jared Hess, known for ‘Napoleon Dynamite’ and ‘Nacho Libre,’ as the director.

‘A Minecraft Movie’ follows four unlikely friends who find themselves transported through a mysterious portal into a strange, cubic world that celebrates creativity. To return home, they must navigate and master the unusual characteristics of this new environment, while joining forces with an adept crafter. Jack Black steps into the role of the beloved character Steve, adding a familiar face to this imaginative adventure.
