'A Minecraft Movie' is racing toward the $1 billion milestone, having pulled in $720 million globally after just three weekends in theaters.
The PG-rated hit from Warner Bros., featuring Jack Black and Jason Momoa, earned an additional $59 million internationally and brought in a hefty $100 million globally over the Easter weekend alone. So far, 'Minecraft' has made $376.2 million from overseas markets, bringing its worldwide total to $720.8 million. It’s already the highest-grossing film of the year and is well on track to become the first to break the billion-dollar barrier in 2025.
Meanwhile, 'Sinners,’ a vampire-themed thriller directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan, had a strong international debut with $15.6 million across 71 markets. Domestically, it performed even better, leading the box office with $45.6 million. Altogether, the film’s global opening totals $61 million — an impressive start for an original, R-rated horror movie set in the 1930s. Still, with a production budget of $90 million before accounting for worldwide marketing costs, the road to profitability remains uncertain.
Among overseas territories, the United Kingdom led with $3.2 million in ticket sales, followed by France with $2 million and Mexico with $1.1 million. Premium large formats, including IMAX, contributed significantly, with IMAX alone bringing in $2 million internationally.
In ‘Sinners,’ Jordan plays twin brothers Smoke and Stack, who return to their Southern hometown to open a juke joint. Things take a dark turn when vampires begin terrorizing the community. The film has earned high praise from both critics and audiences, holding an impressive 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes — a promising sign for continued success through word of mouth.
With both 'A Minecraft Movie' and ‘Sinners' topping charts, Warner Bros. currently dominates the box office, claiming the No. 1 and No. 2 spots worldwide, domestically, and internationally. This success comes as a welcome rebound for the studio following back-to-back flops like Robert De Niro’s 'The Alto Knights' and Bong Joon Ho’s 'Mickey 17,’ which stars Robert Pattinson.
