In 2024, Henry Cavill captivated audiences at CinemaCon by sharing stories of his intense sword training for the studio’s upcoming ‘Highlander’ reboot. After nearly a decade in development with director Chad Stahelski, the film finally appeared to be gaining momentum.
That momentum continues, but with a new home. ‘Highlander’ is now on track to land at Amazon MGM Studios’ United Artists, which is in final negotiations to take over the project from Lionsgate. The film is planned for a theatrical release.
As part of the new arrangement, UA’s Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt will take on producing duties. They’ll be joined by Neal H. Moritz, along with Stahelski’s production company, 87Eleven Entertainment.
Originally, Lionsgate had ambitions to build an entire ‘Highlander’ universe under Stahelski’s guidance. However, the updated deal will grant full rights to the franchise, which began with the 1986 film starring Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery.
