Jesse Eisenberg's next directorial effort following his Oscar-winning ‘A Real Pain,’ is officially underway and will be released by A24.

The film, which is currently in production and still untitled, reunites Eisenberg with the same production team behind ‘A Real Pain.’ This includes Fruit Tree’s Emma Stone, Dave McCary, and Ali Herting, as well as Topic Studios, who return as executive producers.

The cast has expanded to include Halle Bailey, Havana Rose Liu, and Bernadette Peters, joining the previously announced Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti. Also appearing in the ensemble are Bonnie Milligan, Colton Ryan, Lilli Cooper, and Maulik Pancholy.

The story centers on a reserved woman who is unexpectedly cast in a community theater musical and begins to spiral as she immerses herself too deeply in the role. Eisenberg wrote the original music and lyrics for the musical-within-the-film, collaborating with music supervisor Steven Gizicki (‘La La Land’) and executive music producer Bill Sherman (‘In The Heights’).

Eisenberg has previously collaborated with A24 on his feature ‘When You Finish Saving the World.’ Fruit Tree maintains a strong relationship with the studio, having teamed on projects like ‘I Saw the TV Glow’ and the series ‘The Curse.’
