‘The Batman 2’ Still In The Works, But Potentially Being Delayed Again, And Could Be Pattinson’s Final Batman Film
Matt Reeves’ follow-up to major hit ‘The Batman’ has been delayed from it’s original 2025 date to October 2, 2026 — four and half years after the first instalment.
While The Batman Part II won't be part of James' Gunn’s new DC Universe, Gunn said it won't be a "stepchild" and that Warner Bros. "is fully invested in the success of The Batman, just like we are everything else." New heads of DC, Gunn and Peter Safran, are planning their own Batman film for the DCU, currently titled ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ which is expected to release in either 2026 or 2027.
Matt Reeves’ sequel was delayed for the shift in DC structure and the hectic schedule of lead actor Robert Pattinson — the SAG-AFTRA strike certainly didn’t help. Reportedly, James Gunn has been keeping a close eye on the sequel, and insiders have whispered rumors of executive notes being handed down to Matt Reeves — which we hope won’t interfere with story the director is trying to tell.
Now, it’s being suggested that ‘The Batman Part II’ could be Reeves’ final Batman movie, as the DCU is aiming to be the main force and only universe in the current continuation. However, these rumors can easily be dismissed as Reeves is busy working on spinoffs to his Batman film such as ‘The Penguin’ and an ‘Arkham Asylum’ TV show.
Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman, and is the only actor officially confirmed to return for ‘The Batman Part 2.’ Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, Barry Keoghan and Colin Farrell are also very likely to return for the sequel.
Fans will have the upcoming release of the HBO Max spin-off series ‘The Penguin’ to keep them invested in the universe until ‘The Batman Part 2’ releases. The 8 episode Colin Farrell led series is set for release in Fall 2024.
