‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Smashes Record $38.5 Million In Previews, The Best Ever for An R-Rated Film
Marvel Studios latest pic ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ grossed a record-smashing $38.5 million in Thursday previews — the best showing ever for an R-rated film ever and landing in eighth position on the list of top previews for all films.
Shawn Levy directed the third Deadpool instalment in which Ryan Reynolds finally returns as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, bringing Hugh Jackman along for the ride as Logan/Wolverine. The two have been close friends for years and it certainly shows on-screen.
‘Deadpool And Wolverine’ earned $64.8 million in its first two days. The weekend forecast is between $160 million to $175 million domestically (with some insiders speculating upward of $200 million).
The film has strong reviews, holding at a 79% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and a 98% from fans — and rightfully so.
The first ‘Deadpool’ made history when it opened to $133.7 million domestically way back in February 2016, the biggest start ever for an R-rated title — a record that still stands, though ‘Deadpool And Wolverine’ will evidently take over.
On December 14, 2017, Disney announced plans to purchase most of 21st Century Fox, including 20th Century Fox, for $71.3 billion. Since then, Disney have been working with Reynolds to bring Deadpool and the X-Men to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Though the world thought Hugh Jackman’s final Wolverine appearance was in 2017’s ‘Logan,’ he surprised fans with the announcement of his return — a dream come true for all Marvel fans.
