Lionsgate revealed on June 17 that Francis Ford Coppola’s juggernaut $120 million self-funded passion project ‘Megalopolis’ will hit U.S theaters. Because of the theatrical release, press junkets and standard interviews to promote the film are warranted, but it appears the studio/distributor will not be paying for marketing.

Coppola is expected to provide the spend himself, which requires around $15 million to $20 million in marketing, while Lionsgate intends to put the feature on more than 1,500 screens. The film will also show on limited IMAX screens.

Megalopolis premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, where it received a mixed reaction from the audience — who appeared to be polarized from a specific scene where Adam Driver’s character interacts with a live member of the staff who actually went on stage to perform the role.

Synopsis: An architect wants to rebuild New York City as a utopia following a devastating disaster.
