Mikey Madison On “Evolving” As An Artist In Sean Baker’s ‘Anora’

Mikey Madison is making the film festival rounds with director Sean Baker’s ‘Anora,’ which is being praised by critics, hailing Madison’s performance as an erotic dancer from Brooklyn.

The film made its debut at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival on May 21 of this year, and won the festival's Palme d'Or on May 25. This ignited a long festival circuit which will conclude at the BFI London Film Festival this month.

‘Anora’ had its Beyond Fest premiere at L.A.'s Vista Theater on October 1, but back in September during the TIFF premiere, Top Film spoke to the actress about her time on the project.

“I grew a lot as an actor and also as a person making this film I think,” said Mikey Madison on the red carpet of ‘Anora.’ “I think I was able to evolve my craft a little bit more. I think every job I do, there’s one big lesson I learn. And on this one there was so many.”

‘Anora’ is a current favorite for Academy Awards season, as the film looks to land major nominations in categories such as Best Picture and Best Actress for Mikey Madison.

‘Anora’ synopsis: Anora, a dancer from Brooklyn, gets her chance at a Cinderella story when she meets and marries the son of an oligarch. Once the news reaches Russia, her fairytale is threatened as the parents set out for New York to get the marriage annulled.

The film holds at a rare 98% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and an even more rare 90% from Metacritic.

Sean Baker wrote and directed the Neon pic, which he co-produced with Alex Coco and Samantha Quan.

The film has also premiered at the New York Film Festival, the San Sebastián International Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival, and will soon land in England for the the BFI London Film Festival.
