Madonna’s ‘Like A Prayer’ was used in the first official trailer for ‘Deadpool And Wolverine,’ which sparked questions if the song was only for trailer use or something more.

After contacting the Queen of Pop for permission to use her 1989 single ‘Like a Prayer,’ Ryan Reynolds revealed she “gave a great note” for a major sequence in the final cut of the film [‘Deadpool And Wolverine’].

“Also, let’s preface it with the fact that Madonna doesn’t just license the song, and particularly that song has not been licensed,” he said on SiriusXM. “So it was a big deal to ask for it and certainly a bigger deal to use it… We went over and met with her and showed her how it was being used and where and why.”

Director Shawn Levy admitted “it did feel like we were meeting royalty,” as Reynolds said the meeting “was one of the great thrills of my life.”

“And she gave a great note. My God, she watched it and, I’m not kidding, she was like, ‘You need to do this, this, and this in this moment.’ And damn it, if she wasn’t like spot-on and right,” Reynolds added.

“We literally went into a new recording session within 48 hours to do this one note,” said the director. “She had only one note, and it was a great note, and it made the sequence better.”

The third title in the Deadpool franchise, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ shows Ryan Reynolds finally returning at the title character after years of absence due to uncertainty of studio changes.

On December 14, 2017, Disney announced plans to purchase most of 21st Century Fox, including 20th Century Fox, for $52.4 billion. After a bid from Comcast (owner of NBCUniversal) for $65 billion, Disney counterbid with $71.3 billion. Since then, Disney have been working with Reynolds to bring Deadpool and the X-Men to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The world thought Hugh Jackman’s final Wolverine appearance was in 2017’s ‘Logan,’ but he surprised fans with the announcement of his 2024 return. Jackman returning for a final time as Wolverine and Reynolds continuing his Deadpool journey is certainly a dream come true for many Marvel fans.
