Saltburn’ writer/director Emerald Fennell has set her next film as an adaption of the iconic gothic novel by Emily Brontë; ‘Wuthering Heights.’

Fennell made the announcement on Twitter/X.

Brontë’s novel was previously adapted for in 1939 by William Wyler and again in 1992 by director Peter Kosminsky — which starred Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche. The novel was adapted again in 2011 by Andrea Arnold and distributed by Curzon Film.

The book follows Heathcliff, an orphaned foster-son, who falls in love with the daughter of the family who owns the estate (Wuthering Heights) on which he lives. After running away, Heathcliff rises in power and seeks revenge on the families, Earnshaw and Linton, who kept him away from the love of his life.

Fennell’s onscreen acting works include ‘The Crown,’ but broke-out as an intriguing filmmaker on the hit series ‘Killing Eve.’ She was the showrunner and an executive producer for Killing Eve's second season, taking over from Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and was replaced by Suzanne Heathcote for the third season.

Fennell won an Oscar for the screenplay of her first feature film ‘Promising Young Woman,’ which was nominated for five categories total at the 93rd Academy Awards. She then followed up her hit film with the riveting black comedy / psychological thriller ‘Saltburn,’ which starred Barry Keoghan and Jacod Elordi.
