Paramount‘s ‘Gladiator II’ released its first trailer on Tuesday, and smashed viewership records for the studio — even outdoing the numbers for the debut trailer of the studio’s ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’

The trailer for Ridley Scott-directed sequel was viewed by 128 million people globally, across major social platforms including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube and X — all in its first 24 hours. The film reached a peak trend of number 1 on X and ranked number two on Google’s U.S.

Currently, the trailer stands at 180 million+ views across all global platforms.

But it’s not all good news for Paramount, as initial reactions to the first trailer for ‘Gladiator II’ have been lackluster. According to stats posted by Culture Crave, the trailer now has more dislikes than likes.

The main critique of the trailer is the out of place song choice: Kanye West’s and Jay-Z’s hit song ‘No Church in the Wild.’ It doesn’t quite fit the tone that the original 2000 film had, which was accompanied by Hans Zimmer’s masterful score throughout, landing him an Oscar nomination.

The sequel releases on November 15, 2024 (United Kingdom) and November 22, 2024 (United States).
