‘The Devil Wears Prada’ Sequel In Early Development At Disney
A surprise sequel to the highly acclaimed 2006 film is in the works.
Original ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ writer Aline Brosh McKenna is penning a follow-up to the hit film, developed and produced by Wendy Finerman, who was also behind the original.
Currently, no deals have been made with members of the potential cast, but Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway are all highly likely to return — and even showed up on stage together for this year’s SAG Awards.
The 2006 film was an adaption, based on the book of the same name, which follows Andy (Hathaway), a recent college journalism graduate as she lands one of the most coveted jobs in publishing and fashion, finding herself the assistant to diabolical editor Miranda Priestly (Streep).
The film grossed a massive $326 million at the worldwide box office and earned Streep an Oscar nomination.
Some vague details about the sequel suggest a plot where Priestly is still the head of Runway but the magazine has suffered at the hands contemporary publishing and must adapt the online world.
While promoting her recent film, ‘The Idea of You,’ Anne Hathaway told E! she was doubtful about the possibility of a sequel: “I don’t think a continuation of that story is probably ever gonna happen.”
