‘The Fall Guy’ Eyes $30 Million+ Debut

From the director of the divisive ‘Bullet Train,’ David Leitch looks to entertain once again with his latest flick; ‘The Fall Guy.’

After last year’s major box-office hits like ‘Oppenheimer’ (Nolan) and ‘Barbie’ (Gerwig) that accumulated over $2.3 billion, Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt are in hot demand (were they ever not?). ‘The Fall Guy’ presents a fun and cheesy escapism return to mainstream cinema for both actors, though the box-office may have other plans.

It certainly won’t reach the juggernaut heights of the world-acclaimed phenomena “Barbenheimer,” but will kick off the summer movie season just ahead of $30 million on opening weekend. With a modest budget of $130 million for a blockbuster with more than a few A-listers, $250 million will do the trick to break even (marketing numbers included). This means it will need to perform well overseas — though it has already opened in 38 international territories, including Australia (where it was shot).

‘The Fall Guy’ had its world premiere at SXSW on March 12, 2024. Universal screened the film at its CinemaCon panel on April 8. It was released in Australia and New Zealand on April 24 and will release in the United Kingdom on May 2, and the United States the following day.
