Rumours about the movie adaptation of the popular life simulator titled ‘The Sims’ has been spreading for the past few months and now we finally know the truth: The Sims is really getting a movie.

Electronic Arts (EA) has confirmed that a movie based on bestselling game The Sims is in the works with Margot Robbie attached as producer.

‘The Sims’ is one of the best-selling simulation video games ever, with nearly 200 million copies sold globally.

Following the success of ‘Barbie,’ Margot Robbie is looking to adapt more projects in the toy/video game sector, with ‘The Sims’ being first on her list. The actress/producer has additionally taken an interest in Monopoly and is working on adapting the popular board game for the big screen through her company LuckyChap.

Amazon MGM Studios are currently attached to ‘The Sims,’ with Loki director ‘Kate Herro’ set to helm and co-write the project. Briony Redman will also serve as co-writer.

In a new interview with Variety, EA’s vice president and general manager of The Sims franchise Kate Gorman said: “What I will tell you is it’s very much rooted in The Sims universe, and what we want is to have a truly authentic Sims experience brought to a theatrical release.”

Gorman continued: “So what you’ll see from us is that we have been wanting to get this right. We wanted the right partners and to make an impact the size of something like a Barbie movie is exactly what we want. And we know there’s so much love and nostalgia, probably beyond what we would even realize, for The Sims and so many people like us have played throughout generations.”

Gorman also touched on the lore that will be included in the adaption: “There will be Freezer Bunnies. I’m sure a pool without a ladder is somewhere in there, but we haven’t finalized any of those details. But that’s the idea, is to say that it lives within this space. It’s a nod to all of the amazing play and creation and fun that people have had over the last 25 years within The Sims.”

Speaking to Variety in February, Margot Robbie said: "We want to make more films that have the effect that Barbie has.”

She continued: "I don't know if it has to be Barbie 2. Why can't it be another big, original, bold idea where we get an amazing filmmaker, a big budget to play with, and the trust of a huge conglomerate behind them to go and really play? I want to do that."
