With half of 2024 gone, the 97th Academy Awards has begun their search for a host for the 2025 ceremony.

ABC is said to have made offers to Jimmy Kimmel and John Mulaney as individual hosts, with both rejecting the opportunity.

Luckily for the Academy, the Oscars airs on March 2nd, 2025, which means there’s plenty of time to find a new host.

Kimmel has hosted the Academy Awards four times, including the past two years. He appeared to be the safe and logical choice for a 2025 host as he’s already part of the Disney payroll via ABC, although audiences are reported to want a change in personnel.

Mulaney was contacted by the Academy as a second potential choice. The actor/comedian hosted the Governors Awards earlier this year, which ended up a huge hit, and won over a crowd that had many past Oscar nominees and winners in attendance.

Mulaney was once asked by The Hollywood Reporter if he would ever consider hosting the Oscars to which he replied: “Sure, why not? It would be really fun. It’s hosting the Academy Awards. Johnny Carson did that.”
