In February, news broke that Sam Mendes is developing four biopics centered on iconic British band The Beatles, all slated for release in 2027.

While that date might feel like a distant prospect, the journey toward Mendes' ambitious project seems to have reached its first milestone — and potentially its first cast member. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, legendary Beatles drummer Ringo Starr dropped a strong hint that ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ actor Barry Keoghan might be gearing up to portray him on the big screen.

When asked about the possibility of Keoghan playing him in the upcoming films, Starr said: "I think it’s great. I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons, and I hope not too many." While this falls short of an official casting announcement, Starr's apparent approval could be a significant boost for Keoghan.

The actor, who recently showcased his knack for accents — including a Liverpool-inspired one — in ‘Saltburn,’ appears to be a promising contender for the role. If this casting rumor turns out to be true, it could also lend weight to speculation about the rest of the lineup, which includes Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison — a quartet first linked together in the same swirling rumors that mentioned Keoghan.

Mendes' Beatles project represents a historic first: Apple Corps Ltd. and the band’s surviving members, along with the families of George Harrison and John Lennon, have granted full access to their life stories and music for a scripted production.

Though no official release dates or confirmed casting details have been announced, excitement is building. The scope of Mendes' vision — four interconnected films authorized by and focused on the most iconic band in history — is enough to spark widespread anticipation.

While details remain scarce and speculative for now, the potential of these biopics is undeniable. With big names rumored to be involved and an authorized deep dive into the lives and music of The Beatles on the horizon, it's safe to say fans will be lining up for opening night.
