After 36 years, the long-awaited sequel to ‘Beetlejuice,’ suitably titled ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,’ is set to debut tomorrow on September 6, 2024 — and with one of the biggest September openings of all-time (estimated).

The film holds a budget of $100 million.

Tim Burton returns with Warner Bros, anticipating a $100 million to $110 million range in its domestic opening weekend. The horror-comedy could end up as second-best September opening of all time behind New Line’s 2017 horror hit ‘It,’ which launched to $123 million on its debut weekend domestically. The sequel titled ‘It Chapter Two’ holds second place at $91.1 million.

The original ‘Beetlejuice’ grossed $74 million at the box office, which would be more than $195 when adjusted for inflation.

Michael Keaton returns as the title role alongside Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara. Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Arthur Conti and Willem Dafoe are all new additions to the cast.

“Burton gets highly courageous and bold with his work in the film; giving us fantastic (and surprising) set pieces that are either slightly off-beat or utilizing extreme juxtaposition. By doing so, he manages the accomplish the gothic horror-comedy elements from the height of his career in the late 1980s. The scene that makes it work right off the bat involves Monica Bellucci’s character Delores, a ghost who’s body has been chopped into several pieces and laying in different boxes. And to the tune of ‘Tragedy’ by the Bee Gees, Delores pulls herself together, stapling her body as her limbs rejoin,” our review states.

The film holds fresh by Rotten Tomatoes critics at 78%.
