Denis Villeneuve’s Next Film Gets 2026 Release From Warner Bros
Warner Bros. announced Friday that Denis Villeneuve’s next ‘event film’ will hit theaters December 18, 2026 — from Legendary Entertainment, famous home to his ‘Dune’ adaptions.
Plot details remain anonymous, and the director stated that a third Dune movie would likely not be his next film — even after the smash success of 2024s ‘Dune: Part Two.’
Currently, he has a nuclear war film set up at Legendary, based off Annie Jacobsen's book ‘Nuclear War: A Scenario.’ However, some insiders say that Villeneuve may have had a change of heart and could be fast-tracking the third and final Dune instalment to complete his sci-fi trilogy.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter during ‘Dune: Part Two’ press junkets, Villeneuve mentioned four potential projects on the table. He said he was willing to wait for a Part Three as he says it’s “about making sure that I have the right screenplay.”
Other projects in the mixer include ‘Rendezvous with Rama,’ a 1973 science fiction novel by British writer Arthur C. Clarke, about an alien starship that enters the Solar System. Another project on the table is a retelling of ‘Cleopatra.’
‘Dune: Part Two’ hit theaters in March and has reached over $700 million at the global box office.
The sequel stars a main cast of Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Austin Butler, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, and Florence Pugh.
