Denzel Washington Reveals He's Returning For At Least Two More ‘Equalizer’ Sequels
Denzel Washington is gearing up for even more ‘Equalizer’ adventures.
In a newly released interview for Esquire's Winter 2024 cover story, the 69-year-old actor confirmed that he will return for not just one, but two additional films in the hit spy-thriller franchise.
"I told them I'd be up for another Equalizer, and now we're doing parts 4 and 5," Washington shared. His recently released big-screen appearance is in Ridley Scott’s ‘Gladiator II,’ where he reunites with ‘Equalizer 2’ co-star Pedro Pascal.
"People are really excited — they love those Equalizer films," Washington remarked.
The two-time Oscar winner reflected on his career, saying it’s all about variety for him. "Sometimes I think, 'One's for me, one's for them,'" he explained. "For instance, we're doing ‘Othello’ on Broadway and then turning it into a film. That’s a project for me."
But Washington admitted that he's grown to see the ‘Equalizer’ films as personal as well. "I’ve realized these movies are for me, too, because they’re for the fans," he said. "They want to see me take down the bad guys. It’s like they're saying, 'We can’t do it, so you do it for us.' And I’m like, 'Alright, I got it! Just hang on, I’ll handle it.'"
Washington has played the role of Robert McCall, a former government assassin turned vigilante, in all three ‘Equalizer’ movies — starting with the original in 2014, followed by sequels in 2018 and 2023. He also serves as a producer on the series.
Though Washington’s character seemingly had the perfect send-off in ‘The Equalizer 3,’ we can’t wait to see him return.
