Disney Includes Hugh Jackman Supporting Actor Oscar Campaign For ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Awards Season Run
Marvel Studios hit the jackpot with ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ racking up box office numbers to $1.3 billion worldwide (and still growing). The film also breathed much needed life back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), which reinstalled hype to the franchise, and now Disney has its sights set on awards season.
The film will be submitted for consideration at the Golden Globes in all suitable comedy categories, including Ryan Reynolds’ performance as Wade Wilson (Deadpool). Hugh Jackman will also be forwarded as a supporting actor position across all major awards shows for his returning performance as Logan/Wolverine. This includes the likes of Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards, Critics Choice, and the Academy Awards (Oscars). This news stems directly from Variety as confirmation.
The film will undoubtedly land in the new “Cinematic and Box Office Achievement” award at the Golden Globes — an award likely to be won by ‘Inside Out 2’ which stands on $1.69 billion at the global box office.
Either way, huge wins for Disney!

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ also seeks nominations in technical categories such as production design, sound, and visual effects.
Many believed Hugh Jackman should have been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his (at the time) “final portrayal” of Logan/Wolverine in James Mangold’s 2017 western/thriller ‘LOGAN.’
Dafne Keen as X-23 and Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier (Professor X) were also deserving of Oscar nominations for the 2018 Academy Awards.
‘Logan’ went on to be nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 90th Academy Awards, becoming the first live-action superhero film to be nominated for screenwriting. The film was also selected by the National Board of Review as one of the top ten films of 2017.

With Reynolds and Jackman leading ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ the comic book film also stars Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Aaron Stanford, Matthew Macfadyen, and Dafne Keen returning as X-23.
There were also major surprise cameos from past and new Marvel actors including Chris Evans, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Garner and Channing Tatum (in which Tatum finally got to play the role of his lifetime after his ‘Gambit’ movie was never put into production).
‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is officially the highest-grossing R-rated film of all-time, beating out 2019s ‘Joker’ for top place.
‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ lands on Prime Video and Apple TV+ on October 1, 2024.
