‘Dune: Part Two’ Wrapping Up Box Office Run With $710 Million+, Part Three Expected In 2027
For a new film that released on March 1, ‘Dune: Part Two’ has already been agreed by a vast majority of critics and fans of being one of the greatest sequels ever made — and some even calling it the greatest sci-fi film of the 21st century — and it’s hard to argue otherwise.
If Part One wasn’t great enough, Denis Villeneuve certainly delivered a masterstroke of genius with Part Two, and fans have revisited the theatre multiple times to absorb on the the modern greats.
IMAX was certainly the popular format for true movie buffs, and IMAX theatres saw a record breaking number of sales for the 2hr 46min film, with over $145 million.
As we get to the tail-end of Part Two’s box office run, $282 Million (39.6%) has come from domestic ticket sales, while $429.7 Million (60.4%) has come from the international box office. As of June 1, this makes the exact box office number $711,844,358 globally.
The international country with the most box office sales is the United Kingdom with $49.4 Million. The UK is famous for its renown BFI IMAX, which is one of the best and biggest IMAX theatres in the world, and the largest screen in the UK.
The hot topic of discussion is when we can expect Denis Villeneuve’s third Dune instalment ‘Dune: Messiah,’ and the conclusion of Paul Atreides’ story. Without any word of a set date and Villeneuve currently considering four projects prior to ‘Dune 3,’ the expected date of the finale to the trilogy would be sometime around 2027 or even early 2028.
Legendary Pictures officially confirmed the development of ‘Dune 3’ back in April.
