The 2024 action-comedy movie featuring George Clooney and Brad Pitt becomes the most watched film on Apple TV+ ever.

‘Wolfs,’ written and directed by Jon Watts, was also produced by the classic Hollywood duo (Pitt and Clooney, famous for teaming up in the ‘Ocean’s’ movies). Apple reported a boost of viewership by nearly 30% week over week on the streamer.

The movie premiered on Apple TV+ on September 27 in more than 100 countries, generating large viewership numbers in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia.

‘Wolfs’ synopsis: Two rival fixers cross paths when they're both called in to help cover up a prominent New York official's misstep. Over one explosive night, they'll have to set aside their petty grievances and their egos to finish the job (IMDb).

The film was met with average to poor reviews, currently standing at 68% from 148 critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience score is much lower, at 51% from over 500 verified ratings.

‘Wolfs’ is a streaming win that Apple desperately needed, as the streamer only has 25 million subscribers while its competitor Netflix has 277 million. A 2024 report reveal that Apple spent upward of $20 billion on original shows that only 0.2% of the TV-viewing population in the US watches.

Apple also doesn’t buy the most of its projects — a strategy founded by Netflix. However, the studio ended up spending more than $500 million combined on movies from directors Martin Scorsese, Ridley Scott and Matthew Vaughn. Those features ended up as box office disasters, with only ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ making it onto Nielsen’s rankings of the most-popular streaming titles.

Apple TV+ still generates less viewing in one month than Netflix does in one day, but ‘Wolfs’ is perhaps the beginning of an elevated viewership spike.
