Sony and 3000 Pictures are developing a remake of ‘Single White Female’ with Jenna Ortega (‘Wednesday’) and Taylor Russell (‘Bones and All’).

Details about the director for the remake remain undisclosed as the project is still in its preliminary stages.

Russell was instrumental in bringing this project to the studio, and both she and Ortega are set to produce the movie.

The original film, directed by Barbet Schroeder, featured Jennifer Jason Leigh and Bridget Fonda. It follows Allison “Allie” Jones, a software designer in New York City who seeks a new roommate after her fiance cheats on her. She then encounters bizarre behavior from her new tenant. Distributed by Sony’s Columbia Pictures, the original movie earned $48 million in the U.S.

Efforts to revive the original film include a 2005 direct-to-video sequel, ‘Single White Female 2: The Psycho,’ and a 2016 attempt by NBC to create a drama series based on the film, which ultimately did not proceed.

Ortega is widely recognized for her role as Wednesday Addams in Tim Burton's Netflix series, a modern adaptation of ‘The Addams Family,’ and appeared in the 2024 sequel to the 1988 film ‘Beetlejuice.’

Russell starred alongside Timothée Chalamet in ‘Bones and All’ from Luca Guadagnino and has appeared in ‘Waves’ and ‘Escape Room.’ She is also set to lead in a reboot of ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’ directed by Michael B. Jordan.
