Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, two powerhouse horror production companies, are joining forces to revitalize the classic monster film, ‘The Mummy.’ The project, set for release on April 17, 2026, will be directed by Lee Cronin, known for his work on ‘Evil Dead Rise.’

Cronin, who will also pen the screenplay, promises a unique take on the mummy lore. ‘This will be unlike any 'Mummy' movie you've ever seen. I'm reaching into the depths to unearth something ancient and terrifying,’ Cronin remarked.

New Line Cinema has scheduled the release, and Cronin's own company, Doppelgängers, will produce the film alongside prominent figures like James Wan, Jason Blum, and John Keville. Blumhouse and Atomic Monster will share financing duties, while Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Macdara Kelleher will serve as executive producers. Alayna Glasthal from Atomic Monster will oversee the project.

Blumhouse has successfully reimagined several Universal classic horror characters, including the successful ‘Invisible Man’ led by Elizabeth Moss and an anticipated new version of ‘Wolfman’ directed by Lee Whannell with Christopher Abbott starring.

The Mummy character has previously inspired a popular film series in the late 1990s with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, which was later followed by a reboot attempt in 2017 featuring Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, and Russell Crowe.

‘Evil Dead Rise,’ another Cronin project with New Line Cinema, was a financial success, grossing nearly $150 million against a $12 million budget. Cronin is currently represented by several agencies including CAA and Brillstein Entertainment.
