Universal Reveals Christopher Nolan’s Next Movie As Adaptation Of ‘The Odyssey’
Universal has officially announced that Christopher Nolan will be adapting Homer's epic poem, ‘The Odyssey,’ which recounts Odysseus' perilous journey back home following the Trojan War. The upcoming film will be a grand mythic action epic, utilizing groundbreaking IMAX film technology and marking the first time Homer’s tale is adapted for IMAX screens. It is slated for a global theater release on July 17, 2026.
‘The Odyssey’ is one of the oldest pieces of literature, that still captivates readers to this day.
An impressive ensemble cast features Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, and Charlize Theron.
Nolan, known for his work on historical and period films such as the Oscar-winning ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘The Prestige,’ takes on a new genre with ‘The Odyssey." Unlike his previous works, which often incorporate realistic and contemporary themes, this project dives into the mythical world of gods, goddesses, and monsters from the 8th century BC.
In addition to his cinematic ventures, Nolan has recently celebrated significant personal achievements, including winning his first Oscars for ‘Oppenheimer’ and being knighted by King Charles last week, alongside his producing partner and wife, Emma Thomas, who received a Damehood.
