Jason Momoa has confirmed that his ‘Dune’ character, Duncan Idaho, will be returning for the third installment of Denis Villeneuve’s saga.
Appearing on NBC’s ‘TODAY’ show, Momoa shared the news with host Craig Melvin during a Monday morning segment. “I’m making a comeback,” he told Craig Melvin on the broadcast Monday morning. “You heard it first, right here with you, baby.”
Warner Bros. have yet to comment.
Momoa first portrayed Duncan Idaho — the skilled swordmaster and loyal mentor to Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides — in 2021’s ‘Dune.’ Though Duncan dies heroically in the film, sacrificing himself to help Paul and Lady Jessica escape the deadly Sardaukar, his story may not end there.
In Frank Herbert’s original six-part novel series, Duncan is brought back as a clone, a detail Melvin brought up during the interview. When asked if the films would follow the same storyline, Momoa replied, “Well, I’m not sure if I’m going to get in trouble or not, but it’s the same thing like ‘Game of Thrones’, you know what I mean?. If you didn’t read the books, it’s not my fault, right? Yeah, there’s going to be… I’m going to be coming back.”
Following the massive success of ‘Dune: Part 2,’ which earned $711 million globally in early 2024, Legendary officially announced in April that work on ‘Dune 3’ was in progress.
