One of the most buzzed-about horror films this year, Longlegs, directed by Osgood Perkins, hit theaters in July following a highly successful marketing campaign. The film went on to scare up over $109 million at the global box office, positioning itself to top many “Best Of” lists as the year comes to a close. But could Longlegs also be a contender for the Oscars?

NEON, the film’s distributor, has officially launched a "For Your Consideration" campaign, seeking nominations across all categories. This move could pave the way for the Nicolas Cage and Maika Monroe-led film to make an appearance at next year's Academy Awards.

NEON is pushing for nominations in several key categories, including:

  • Best Director – Osgood Perkins

  • Best Original Screenplay – Osgood Perkins

  • Best Actress – Maika Monroe

  • Best Supporting Actor – Nicolas Cage

  • Best Supporting Actor – Blair Underwood

  • Best Supporting Actress – Alicia Witt

A "For Your Consideration" campaign is a crucial first step in the Oscar race. It’s essentially a marketing push from distributors aimed at reminding voters of the film’s merits and encouraging support. While it doesn’t guarantee nominations, it certainly puts Longlegs back in front of voters who may have moved on to other films.

Historically, horror movies have struggled to gain recognition at the Oscars, often being overlooked despite critical and box office success. However, Nicolas Cage, who won an Oscar for ‘Leaving Las Vegas’ and was nominated for ‘Adaptation,’ brings an added level of prestige to the film. His history with the Academy could boost his chances of earning a nomination, even in a genre that often gets snubbed.
