‘Longlegs’ Star Maika Monroe Joins ‘The Hand That Rocks the Cradle’ Remake For 20th Century Studios

Maika Monroe has become a modern day “scream queen” thanks to her careful selections in genre-challenging thrillers and horrors in the independent cinema space.

Most recently, Osgood Perkins’ ‘Longlegs’ put her in the spotlight alongside Nicolas Cage, and the film was hailed for its complex and “dread-inducing” occult themes.

Now, Monroe has another thriller film in the works after signing on to lead 20th Century Studios’ remake of ‘The Hand That Rocks the Cradle.’

Michelle Garza Cervera is set to direct the feature from a script by Micah Bloomberg, scheduled to release sometime in 2025.

The original 1992 film plot follows the pregnant wife of a Seattle obstetrician who kills himself after he is accused of sexual misconduct by his patients. The shock leads the wife to miscarry, after which she acts as a nanny for one of her husband's accusers, and slowly begins to infiltrate the family.

Maika Monroe was reported to be first choice for the role of the nanny.

The actress had her breakout role in David Robert Mitchell’s 2014 horror pic ‘It Follows,’ ten year before starring in Neon’s biggest hit ‘Longlegs’ (2024).
