Michael Jackson Biopic Pushed Back Six Months To October 2025 Release
Lionsgate is gearing up for an exciting fall in 2025, with not one but two highly anticipated films set to hit theaters that season.
The studio announced that its upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, ‘Michael,’ directed by Antoine Fuqua, will now be released in wide theaters on October 3, 2025—pushed back six months from its original date of April 18, 2025. The film stars Jaafar Jackson, the late pop icon’s nephew, as Michael, with a talented supporting cast that includes Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Miles Teller, and Colman Domingo. Fuqua, known for his powerful storytelling, directs from a script by John Logan, with Graham King, John Branca, and John McClain producing the project.
The buzz around Michael has been growing, with Fuqua revealing at San Diego Comic-Con in July that he was deep into the editing process. Reflecting on why he took on the project, he said, "Michael was a huge part of my life growing up, a massive influence on my career. He was an incredible artist — but also a human being, and that’s what we’re exploring."

Audiences got an early glimpse at CinemaCon, where producer Graham King teased that the film will feature a whopping 30 songs and run long enough to truly capture the King of Pop’s complex story. It's shaping up to be a deeply immersive look at one of music's most legendary figures.
Just two weeks later, on October 17, 2025, Lionsgate will follow up with the release of ‘Good Fortune,’ a star-studded comedy from writer-director Aziz Ansari. The film, which also features Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, Sandra Oh, and Keanu Reeves, promises to bring plenty of laughs. The plot follows an angel (Reeves) who, with the best of intentions but not much wisdom, intervenes in the lives of a frustrated gig worker (Ansari) and a venture capitalist (Rogen).
With these two powerhouse films on the horizon, Lionsgate is setting the stage for a blockbuster fall, after the horrid 2024 performances of ‘Megalopolis’ among 13 other box office flops.
