Michael Keaton On Canceled ‘Batgirl’ Movie: “I Didn’t Care One Way Or Another. Big, Fun, Nice Check”
After reprising his iconic Batman/Bruce Wayne role in 2023s ‘The Flash,’ Michael Keaton was set to continue his Batman comeback in a new ‘Batgirl’ film from Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah [from a screenplay by Christina Hodson].
Keaton recently told GQ magazine that he wasn’t too shaken (if at all) when Warner Bros. abruptly canceled the release of ‘Batgirl.’ The actor would have shared the screen with Brendon Fraser as the villainous Firefly, J. K. Simmons returning as James Gordon, and Leslie Grace in the title role.
“No, I didn’t care one way or another. Big, fun, nice check,” Keaton said on the canceled ‘Batgirl’ film.

The studio shelved the film in August 2022 in order to “cut costs.” This didn’t quite add up with fans, which caused much speculation as to what the “real” reason was. After all, the $90 million ‘Batgirl’ film was already shot and with a nearly completed post-production.
“I like those boys. They’re nice guys,” Keaton said about ‘Batgirl’ directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. “I pull for them. I want them to succeed, and I think they felt very badly, and that made me feel bad. Me? I’m good.”
