Universal has another biopic in active development; this time tackling the Grammy-winning pop star Britney Spears.

This announcement came after the studio bought the rights to Spears’ best-selling memoir titled ‘The Woman in Me’ (released 2023).

Jon M. Chu (‘Wicked’) is currently attached to direct.

Spears posted on social media in celebration of the announcement.

Spears’ memoir sold 2.5 million copies in the U.S, becoming the fastest-selling publication in Simon & Schuster’s history.

The book openly shows the singer’s journey as an individual and performer, with many unknown facts presented to the public such as her abortion while dating Justin Timberlake.

“My book’s purpose was not to offend anyone by any means! That was me then - that is in the past!” Spears said in an Instagram post defending her book.

Spears’ also touches on her conservatorship that had the attention of the world media as it was terminated in 2021 after 14 years of the singer being trapped under it. In ‘The Woman in Me,’ Spears wrote about how the conservatorship dictated every decision for her against her will; including the moment she wakes in the morning, her diet, and family planning.

Iconic songs by the pop star include ‘Baby One More Time’ (1998) that went x14 platinum. ‘Toxic,’ ‘Oops!…I did It Again,’ ‘Gimme More,’ and ‘Womanizer,’ are among Spears’ most celebrated works.
