Prior to the 76th Emmys, the media and audiences knew there would be two shows in particular that would dominate awards season.

Shōgun’ and ‘The Bear’ won four awards each at Sunday’s ceremony and set new records for wins by a drama (18) and comedy (11) in a single year. FX led with a total of 36 wins at the 76th Emmy Awards.

‘Shogun’ stars Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai won for best actor and actress in a drama, while the show itself won the top award for best drama series.

‘The Bear’ lead star Jeremy Allen White accepted the award for best actor in a comedy series for season 3 of the hit show.

This is the first time FX has topped all other networks in total wins (60), also making it the first time in 15 years that the top network of the night was not Netflix or HBO.

This proved to be a successful run of form for FX/Disney, hence greenlighting more seasons of ‘Shōgun.’

Netflix finished in second with 24 total wins while HBO/Max took home 14 Emmys — the lowest total for the Warner Bros. Discovery outlets in more than 25 years.

Disney+’s documentary ‘Jim Henson: Idea Man’ took home 5 Emmys, Hulu’s ‘Only Murders in the Building’ earned 3, FX’s ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ earned the same, Hulu’s comedy ‘How I Met Your Father’ (now canceled) received 2 awards for multicamera cinematography and picture editing.

HBO and Max took home 3 wins for ‘Hacks’ (best comedy series, writing for a comedy and lead actress jean Smart). ‘Last Week Tonight With John Oliver’ won 2 Emmys, and ‘Alex Edelman: Just for Us’ received best writing for a variety special.

For HBO/Max, some of their heavy hitters like ‘The Last Of Us’ did not qualify for the Emmys as they did not release any shows during the awards year. Season 2 of the hit series is likely to premiere in time to be considered for the 2025 Emmys (much like ‘House Of The Dragon’).

‘Baby Reindeer’ (Netflix) won best limited series as well as best actor in a limited series (Richard Gadd), while Jessica Gunning won best supporting actress in a limited series. The show earned 6 awards total, assisting Netflix in winning 24 Emmys for the year. Other major contributors include hit animated series ‘Blue Eye Samurai’ with 4 wins, and Elizabeth Debicki for best supporting actress in a drama series for her portrayal of Princess Diana in ‘The Crown.’
