70-year-old director James Cameron is already mapping out his future after ‘Avatar.’

Though ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’ is only the second film in his saga, it came 13 years after the first film and shattered the box office with a total run of $2.32 billion worldwide.

Cameron has recently purchased the rights to the upcoming ‘Ghosts Of Hiroshima’ book written by Charles Pellegrino, with intention to direct a feature adaptation of the atomic bomb story. The book releases August 2025 by Blackstone Publishing, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing.

Cameron currently has three more Avatar films lined up, stretching all the way to 2032. The next instalment in the franchise is titled ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash,’ releasing December 19, 2025.

Regarding Pellegrino’s adaption, the film follows the true story of 29 year old engineer Tsutomu Yamaguchi — the only person who survived both atomic bombs dropped on Japan during the end of World War II.

In recent memory, audiences has Christopher Nolan’s multi-Academy Award winning ‘Oppenheimer’ about what is was like for the man behind the creation of the atomic bomb at the secret Los Alamos location. Now, Cameron will take people on the ground from the horrifying perspective a survivor.
