Henry Cavill To Star In Live-Action ‘Voltron’ Movie For Amazon MGM
Fan favorite Superman ‘Man Of Steel’ actor and past star of ‘The Witcher’ Netflix series has been revealed to star in a live-action feature based on the mecha anime ‘Voltron.’
The film is being helmed by Rawson Marshall Thurber. Producing the pic are Todd Lieberman with Hidden Pictures, World Events Productions’ Bob Koplar, Thurber and Hobie Films’ David Hoberman. Thurber co-wrote the script with Ellen Shanman.
Cavill joins Daniel Quinn-Toye, the newcomer who caught the attention of the studio and director when he starred opposite Tom Holland in his West End theatre work.
Voltron is based on the Japanese sci-fi series Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV (THR). World Events renamed the show after the dubbing process, earning the name ‘Voltron: Defender of the Universe.’ The show aired during the mid-1980s, about five young pilots in a battalion named the Robot Lions — a force of vehicles that join together to form a super-robot known as Voltron.
Cavill’s 2024 ended up a big success after the passing of the Superman torch and his abrupt exit from ‘The Witcher’ series. The A-lister starred in Matthew Vaughan’s ‘Argyle' and Guy Ritchie’s ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.’ Real fan-excitement reached its peak when Cavill surprised global audiences with his appearance in ‘Deadpool And Wolverine’ as a Wolverine variant: The Cavillrine.
Cavill is working with Guy Ritchie once again for another action-thriller titled ‘In The Grey,’ co-starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Eiza Gonzalez. The actor is also in development with Chad Stahelski’s active reboot of Highlander, which shoots in 2025. Cavill now helms the role executive producer along with starring in a live-action ‘Warhammer 40,000’ franchise, which is set to have multiple films and series in the works at Amazon MGM Studios.
No details about the Voltron’s story or script are available at this time.
