Jason Reitman‘s movie about the first ever broadcast of hit show ‘Saturday Night Live’ is set for a wide theatrical release by Sony on October 11, 2024 — the same day of SNL’s first ever season opener back in 1975.

Reitman directs a script he co-penned with Gil Kenan — with both reuniting after working on ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.’

The film’s official synopsis was recently released and explains, “a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers changed television forever.”

The Sony movie is officially titled ‘Saturday Night,’ leaving behind the ‘Live,’ and is based on the true story of what happened behind the scenes in the frantic 90 minutes leading up to the defining broadcast.

Major players such as Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris, Laraine Newman, Michael O’Donoghue, Andy Kaufman, and Gilda Radner all starred in the premiere episode.

SNL was devloped by Dick Ebersol and went on to hire the legendary Lorne Michaels as showrunner, who remains to this day as the show’s main head of authority. .

SEE THE FILM’S MAIN ENSEMBLE CAST: Gabriel LaBelle (as Michaels), Dylan O’Brien (Aykroyd), Cory Michael Smith (Chase), Rachel Sennott (Rosie Shuster), Lamorne Morris (Morris), Nicholas Braun (Jim Henson), Finn Wolfhard (an NBC page), Jon Batiste (Preston), Ella Hunt (Radnor), Cooper Hoffman (Ebersol), Andrew Barth Feldman (Neil Levy), Naomi McPherson (Ian), Willem Dafoe (David Tebet), J.K.
