Kevin Costner’s ‘Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter Two’ is set to premiere at the 81st Venice Film Festival in September — less than a month after its U.S. theatrical release was scrapped.

Costner’s Western epic was planned to release August 16 in U.S. theaters but was ultimately cancelled after the first installment only generated $33.2 million at the global box office on a $100 million budget.

Costner once again directs and stars in the sequel alongside Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone and Danny Huston. The cast will be in attendance for the out-of-competition screening on September 7, which will world premiere after the first film is screened.

‘Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1’ (2024) premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival back in May and received a seven-minute standing ovation.

‘Horizon: An American Saga’ is a multi-chaptered depiction of the Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West.

“My dream was always to show ‘Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter Two’ at the Venice Film Festival,” actor, writer and director Kevin Costner said. “The fact that now they have decided to show ‘Chapter One’ earlier in the day and then the world premiere of ‘Chapter Two’ that evening shows not only their belief in how the two films work together but their support of a director’s vision. I’m indebted to Alberto Barbera for his courage and leadership in committing to this cinematic journey.”

The 81st edition of the Venice Film Festival will run August 28 to September 7, 2024.
