The Marvel Cinematic Universe is adding a cinematic legend to its acting roster.

While Marvel Studios hasn’t officially confirmed a third ‘Black Panther’ film, Denzel Washington recently hinted that it’s on the horizon — and he’s going to be part of it. During an interview on Australia’s Channel 9 Today show, in promotion for ‘Gladiator II,’ Washington revealed that ‘Black Panther’ director Ryan Coogler is working on a role specifically for him in the upcoming film.

When asked about what’s next for him in Hollywood, Washington shared, “At this stage in my career, I only want to work with the best. I don’t know how many more films I’ll make, but I want to focus on projects that challenge me in new ways.” He went on to reflect on his past roles, saying, “I played Othello at 22, and now I’ll be playing him again at 70. After that, I’m tackling Hannibal. I’m also in talks with Steve McQueen for a new project. And after that, Ryan Coogler is writing me a part in the next Black Panther.”

The ‘Black Panther’ franchise has become a defining pillar of the MCU. The first film, released in 2018, was not only a cultural milestone but a box office juggernaut, pulling in over $1.34 billion globally. It starred Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o, and Michael B. Jordan, captivating audiences with its groundbreaking storytelling, powerful performances, and important social commentary.

Chadwick Boseman passed away in 2020 at just 43 years old, from colon cancer.

The 2022 sequel, ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,’ served as both a heartfelt tribute to Boseman and a continuation of Wakanda’s story. Like its predecessor, it soared at the box office, proving the franchise’s lasting impact.

Now, with Denzel Washington joining the next chapter, the future of Wakanda is still going strong.
