Matt Damon To Star In Christopher Nolan’s Next Movie At Universal, July 2026 Release Date
CONFIRMED: Christopher Nolan’s next film will be at Universal, continuing his strong partnership with the studio post-Warner Bros after the success of ‘Oppenheimer.’
‘Interstellar’ and Best Picture Oscar winner ‘Oppenheimer’ supporting cast member Matt Damon will star in Nolan’s new film which has a release date of July 17, 2026.
Nolan departed Warner Bros., a long time studio collaborator in late 2020. This was mostly due to the controversial ‘Project Popcorn’ initiative — a strategy to release 2021 titles on HBO Max simultaneously with their theatrical debut. Warner Bros. saw strong push back by filmmakers and major industry players.
Nolan is more than happy to stay at Universal for the meantime as ‘Oppenheimer’ exceeded all financial and critical expectations. Nolan received his first Oscars for directing and producing the pic (alongside co-producer and Nolan’s wife Emma Thomas). The biopic received five other wins including Cillian Murphy for Best Actor and Robert Downey Jr. for Best Supporting Actor.
Details on Nolan’s 2026 film is being kept secret, but sources say the project is not a big-screen take on 1960s British series ‘The Prisoner’ as some previously speculated.
Nolan is currently polishing the script and will produce the pic with career-long producing partner and wife Emma Thomas for their company Syncopy.
The film will be Damon’s third collaboration with Nolan.
More details to come.
